Apple & Cheese Torte

1/4-cup butter or margarine
3/4-cup sugar, divided
1-tsp vanilla, divided
1-cup flour
1-8oz package cream cheese
4-apples, peeled, thinly sliced
1/2-tsp cinnamon
1/2-cup powdered sugar
2-tbsp milk
2-tbsp toasted slivered almonds

Cream together the butter, 1/4-cup sugar and 1/2-tsp vanilla
Add flour and blend
Press into the bottom and 1/2" up the side of a 9" springform pan
Beat the cream cheese, 1/4-cup sugar, the egg, and 1/2-tsp vanilla until smooth
Pour into prepared crust
Toss the apples lightly with 1/4-cup sugar and cinnamon
Layer evenly over the cream cheese
Bake at 450*F for 10 minutes
Reduce heat to 400*F and bake for another 30-45 minutes or until apples are soft and browned
Remove sides of pan and place on serving plate
Combine the powdered sugar and milk
Drizzle over torte; garnish with almonds
